Goodbye Pardot – Hello Marketing Cloud Account Engagement

So, one of the big pieces of news to come out of Salesforce recently was the renaming of some of the products in line with the ‘Salesforce Easy’ goal. The whole idea behind this is to make the vast array of products that Salesforce offers easier to understand for its customers, their partners and even those internally at Salesforce.

Here is a list of all the recent changes:

  • Marketing Cloud Email Studio (aka ExactTarget) to Marketing Cloud Engagement
  • Pardot to Marketing Cloud Account Engagement
  • CDP to Marketing Cloud Customer Data Platform
  • Interaction Studio to Marketing Cloud Personalization
  • Email, Messaging, and Journeys to Marketing Cloud Engagement
  • Advertising Studio to Marketing Cloud Advertising
  • Datorama to Marketing Cloud Intelligence
  • myTrailhead to Salesforce Sales Enablement
  • Salesforce CMS to Digital Experiences

Why change the name of Pardot?

Salesforce launched an initiative called MC Easy (Marketing Cloud Easy, not any kind of burger!) which sits inside the Salesforce Easy strategy. The major driver behind this is to make all the Marketing Cloud products immediately understandable and to have a consistent naming approach.

There are four main reasons why this is happening:

  • To make the vocabulary more understandable – as Salesforce has acquired various different platforms over the years some of them have kept their original name – Pardot being one of them
  • Salesforce wants the features of Marketing Cloud to be easily understandable to the customer – it should do what it says on the tin
  • It believes that it will make it easier to talk about the different MC Products across the customers organisation
  • Last but not least it should make it easier from a reporting perspective e.g. Gartner

So, what isn’t changing?

  • The pricing
  • Packaging/Bundles
  • Any of the Product Features or Functionality
  • The SKU names on your contract with Salesforce
